Carmel Christian basketball had a successful season. After a rough start, the Cougars found momentum and had a strong and exciting end to the regular season. Going into the playoffs, the Cougars earned the second seed in the 4A NCISAA playoffs. The first game was set against Ravenscroft.

Ravenscroft was led by senior guard Chance Gladden. Gladden is one of the top players the Cougars had to face all season. It was due to be a tough matchup. After a slow start, the Cougars trailed 16-11. A strong end to the first half put Carmel ahead 30-28. The Carmel boys were playing well, but Gladden was certainly giving the Cougars problems.
The third quarter was once again very tight, and Carmel went into the fourth quarter with a slim one-point lead. Carmel was able to maintain the lead through the rest of the game and pulled away with a 56-53 victory. Senior Chandler Kennedy finished with 19 points, the leading scorer for Carmel in this key match up.

This victory meant that the Cougars matched up with Providence Day in the semi-final, in what would be the greatest game in Carmel history. Carmel got off to a strong start, with Bryce Slay hitting multiple shots; however, the team lost the lead. Carmel went into the second quarter hoping to regain the advantage that was tightly contested throughout the first half.
In the second half, Carmel played well, but Providence Day found themselves with a lead in the fourth quarter. There were opportunities for Providence Day to build the lead, but Carmel kept the score within reach. Slay hit a layup while being fouled to tie up the game. A strong defensive possession at the end of regulation sent the game to overtime.

Overtime began with Carmel building a slim lead, but Providence Day remained in it throughout the extended period of time. Guard Chandler Kennedy scored with 10 seconds left, but Providence Day came down and hit a long three-pointer to take the lead with 3 seconds left. Next, came the biggest shot of the season. Braylen Bowman passed the ball to Bryce Slay in the corner near the student section. Slay stepped back and hit a three-pointer to send the game into double-overtime. This shot was against all odds, most in the gym assumed that the game was over, but Bowman and Slay gave all of the fans the hope that they could continue to push through.
In double overtime, Carmel dominated the entire period continuing to build on the momentum and enthusiasm of the redemptive three pointer. The Cougars ended up winning 73-65, after a great defensive effort in the last period. This game sent Carmel to the state championship against Christ School. This game against Providence Day mirrored the playoffs last year when Providence Day eliminated Carmel, however, the ending to this one was highly preferred.
The final game of the season was the State Championship against Christ School. This game was hosted at Providence Day School. Christ School is an incredibly talented team, but Carmel was able to keep this game close throughout the first half. The whole team worked together to put their best foot forward against a worthy opponent, and of Bryce Slay scored over 20 points in this game.

Unfortunately, Christ School was able to take control of the game in the fourth quarter and managed to win the State Championship. The Carmel community is incredibly proud of the incredible season that the Cougars had. Carmel was able to push through many different barriers and setbacks, and they continued to work hard throughout the entire season, finishing state runner-ups in the 4A playoffs.
