Charlotte is a booming metropolitan city with countless events and happenings. Among the many opportunities are five main sports teams located in the Charlotte area: Charlotte FC, the Carolina Panthers, the Charlotte Hornets, the Charlotte Knights and the Charlotte Checkers.
Charlotte FC is currently sitting at 7-12-11 and are 14th in the MLS. Karol Swiderski is currently leading the team in goals this year with nine, and he also led the team last year with 10. The team struggles holding the opponents to low scores.
Scoring has not been a main issue for the team, but the defense fails to maintain the lead towards the end of games in order to win or tie.
Charlotte FC is a relatively new team in the MLS. They were started by Panthers owner David Tepper. David Tepper has made it very clear that wants to see the team succeed in the very near future. Also, the team plays at Bank of America Stadium, and David Tepper and his staff have made plenty of renovations to the stadium for the benefit of the team.
The Panthers are struggling to start off the season in the NFL. They currently have a record of 0-6, which is the worst start for the team in over a decade. Also, the team is dealing with many player injuries including Bryce Young, Jaycee Horn, Shaq Thompson, and many more.
The defense has been a constant throughout the season. Typically they hold opponents to a low amount of yards and points. The offense has been the struggle point. They have had a hard time moving the ball down the field and converting that into points. The team has also given the ball away with turnovers way too many times.
Frank Reich has been a very big disappointment thus far in the season. His playcalling has been very predictable and lackluster. Also, General Manager Scott Fitterer has failed to provide Bryce Young with the offense needed to succeed in the NFL. His wide receivers are incapable of creating separation and getting open for Bryce Young. Overall, a very disappointing start to the season is not what the fans were hoping for or expecting, but there are certainly a lot of games left in the season.
The Charlotte Hornets season is right about to get started back. The team drafted Brandon Miller out of Alabama with the second pick in the draft. Lamelo Ball is the face of the franchise. He has proven that, when healthy, he is one of the best young point guards in the NBA.
The team will also be getting back Miles Bridges after a 10-game suspension this year. Fans are certainly suspicious of the team bringing him back. Bridges was accused of some pretty serious accusations in July of 2022. However, after serving a pretty long suspension, it seems as though he is remorseful for his actions, and is looking forward to helping the Hornets win more games.
Another fun fact about the Hornets is that famous content creator Mr. Beast is currently sponsoring the team through his chocolate brand, ‘Feastables.’ Incorporating something like this into a small market team like the Hornet is a good way to get people talking about the team more.
Overall, the Hornets are still rebuilding and not quite ready to compete yet, but this year they have the potential to surprise the fans with a play-in tournament birth.
There are also two minor league teams located in Charlotte. The first is the Charlotte Knights, whose season recently ended. The team finished last in the entire league with a record of 53-96.
The professional team that is associated with the club is the Chicago White Sox. Their season also just ended with a record of 61-101, putting them fourth in the American League Central division.
The other minor league team located in Charlotte is the Checkers. Their season is set to start in the coming weeks. They kick off their season on October 13 at 7 PM facing the Scranton Penguins. Their affiliate in the National Hockey League is the Florida Panthers. The Panthers finished 42-32 last season.
Charlotte is full of young talent, whether that be Lamelo Ball and Brandon Miller for the Hornets, or the number 1 overall pick in last year’s draft, Bryce Young for the Carolina Panthers.
Although these teams may not be performing their best right now, it is certainly a great time to start cheering for your local teams in the Queen City. Comebacks are always possible, so it is important to always be on the lookout.
