Jan. 30 was Senior Night for Carmel Christian’s winter sports and an opportunity to celebrate all of the seniors for basketball, cheerleading and swimming.

The seniors on the cheer team include Charlotte Russell and Claire Jones. They have helped lead the cheer team all season and always have great energy that translates to the crowd.

Seniors on the swim team include Kaitlin Blanchard, Riley Frey and Kate Denny. They work hard all year to compete in meets.

 Last but certainly not least is Kam Taylor was the only senior for this year’s team. Taylor is the lone senior on the basketball team, but he is leading the team in scoring and rebounding. He also has the team in a great position to make a late postseason run.

 The basketball game started with the student section filling up during the end of the JV game. Unfortunately, JV fell just short of a win to GCAA after a brutal 3-point game-winning-shot. This was a great game that Carmel controlled most of the runtime but ended with a tough loss.

However, the varsity game was very different. After a shaky first quarter defensively for the Cougars, they blew GCAA out in the second half. With stunning performances from Kam Taylor, Bryce Slay and Bobby Montgomery, CCS was able to win this game 88-54.

At halftime, the seniors were honored. This encouraged a larger crowd for the game as most people came out to see their friends being celebrated. Senior night is always fun as the high school gets the chance to watch the basketball game, along with recognizing the achievements that the Seniors have made during their time at Carmel.
