Dylan Wilson, an active member of the Carmel family, was born on November 6, 2006. Wilson was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is also an Alpha and Omega student at Carmel, meaning he has been at the school since kindergarten. Wilson’s family consists of his loving mother and father, Matt and Shelly Wilson, and older brother Harper Wilson. Wilson’s grandma and grandpa, Nana and Moo, live in the small town of Opp, Alabama. Dylan recalls his times visiting their farm fondly. One of Wilson’s favorite memories from his time on the farm was learning how to tend to livestock and riding the tractor with Moo. Wilson also remembers starting hobbies early that have carried on to the present day.
Wilson thoroughly enjoys hunting, fishing and singing. Wilson’s hunting obsession started around the age of 6. On one of his first trips, his dad took him duck hunting. He came out successful, killing approximately three mallards. Since his first hunt, Wilson has added a repertoire of other game to his tally. These animals include deer, pig, dove, quail, turkey, racoons and more. Going along with the hunting theme, Wilson also loves to fish. It can be at the beach, at a lake, at a river or even in the pool; Wilson will be fishing wherever there is a body of water. Unrelated to most of his other hobbies, Wilson loves to sing and partake in the theatre program at Carmel. His favorite genre of music is country which led him to co-found a country music band: Almost Cowboys. He created the band with two former Carmel students, Lawson Jernigan and Will McClintock. Another outlet for his love of singing comes from his acting career.
Wilson’s first play was a performance of “The Jungle Book,” which Matthews Playhouse hosted. Wilson went on to act in a few more plays there such as “Hamilton.” Through his desire to act, Wilson starred in three Carmel middle school plays and continues to do the same in high school. His favorite play that he performed in was Carmel’s production of “Anastasia” in 2024. What stood out from this play compared to the rest was the sense of community and dedication from the actors. Wilson looks forward to his upcoming role in Carmel’s production of “Oklahoma” as Curly Mclain.
In the future, Wilson plans to major in engineering. Although he is undecided on what college he would like to attend, Auburn, Texas A&M, Clemson and N.C. State has piqued his interest. With his degree in engineering, Wilson would like to go down the career path of construction. He one day hopes to own a general contracting firm. Wilson discovered this interest during his internship with Abernethy Contracting. He has since built a great relationship with the owner and has only reinforced his idea of what he would like to do in the future.
As previously stated, Wilson is an active member of the Carmel community. He has given back to the student body by being the voice between teacher and student through his role in SGA. Wilson stated he has enjoyed his time at Carmel, “particularly Mr. McMillion’s class.” Wilson is thankful that Carmel has allowed him to grow closer in his faith and make lifelong friends along the way.
