The Lyerly siblings, Grace and Cameron, are a well-known sibling duo here at Carmel. The Lyerlys have been attending Carmel since 2018 and have both made a significant impact on their friends and teachers. The CCS community can see the relationship and love that Grace and Cameron have for one another.
Grace is currently a Senior, and Cameron is in his Sophomore year. The Lyerlys are only two years apart, and this has helped them grow closer over the years; however, the two have always been close, and they happily reminisce about their childhood together. The Lyerlys grew up in Oldsmar, Florida, and have such joyous memories of their time there.

They agreed that Florida is a beautiful environment and a wonderful place to start their lives. One of their most memorable childhood experiences was, according to Grace, “when Cam was a very young baby, he tore a huge chunk out of my hair, and he was just holding it in his little hand, shaking it around like he was proud of it.” Both siblings remember this story vividly and think back to it frequently, laughing harder each time the story is told. They also have fond memories of playing softball and baseball together. They’ve always loved the sport and got to experience playing in Florida at the same time.
In 2018, the Lyerly family decided to move to Matthews, North Carolina. This move changed a lot for their family, but Grace and Cameron’s bond never wavered. As they continued to grow up in North Carolina, they each found their interests in numerous activities. Grace is interested in animals and wildlife, specifically horses, and also enjoys doing arts and crafts. Cameron has his own set of interests, such as mountain biking and skateboarding.
Despite their differences, the two spend a lot of time together. Grace drives Cameron to school every day, and it is a wonderful opportunity to talk to one another and learn more about their days. They also enjoy watching movies and sports together.

Through spending this time together, Grace and Cameron have learned to love and appreciate many different aspects of one another. Cameron explains, “one of my favorite things about Grace is her caring heart for nature and animals. She has such a passion for it, and it’s very admirable. Her work with the Humane Society is a reflection of her passion. Not only that, but I also love when she buys ice cream for me!”
Grace admires many things about Cameron, but states that “Cameron has such an ability to be a good leader. He is in Student Government at Carmel and also recently became an Eagle Scout, and those are perfect ways for him to show how good of a leader he can be. Also, Cam is so hilarious. He’s like a miniature version of our dad.”
Looking forward, Grace plans to attend North Carolina State University and major in Animal Science on the Pre-Veterinary track. She is carrying on her family legacy as both of her parents are NC State Alumni. Cameron explains, “I am so proud that Grace is following in the footsteps of our parents. Our whole family is so excited for her, but we are going to miss her so much.” Cameron, although only a Sophomore, has begun thinking about the college process as well. He currently sees himself attending the University of Florida or becoming an engineer at the Air Force Academy.

His passion for that stems from his previous family members’ service in the military.
Grace and Cameron realize how special their bond is, and they both cherish each other and are so thankful that they have gotten to spend so much time together throughout their childhood. Although both of their lives will be very different next year, Grace and Cameron plan to keep in close contact and visit one another often. The Lyerly siblings are a statement duo at the school. Grace’s presence will be missed as she moves into the next chapter of her life. Both Grace and Cameron are sure to accomplish amazing things with their many passions and talents.
