Alright guys, Mr. Donovan Law is still a new face at Carmel Christian school as this is his second year being the assistant high school principal. Though the students only know Law in this setting, Law’s has had an impactful journey that has led him to where he is today.
Law grew up in a small town called Moishem, Tenn. He is the oldest of three children and the eldest out of his extended family. Law describes his childhood as wonderful, as he had a great relationship with his dad and family.
Law also had a strong relationship with his grandparents as every summer, he would go and work on their farm. His grandfather was a very strong influence in his life and helped forge him into the person he is today.
Growing up, Law went to West Greene High School and played multiple sports. He focused mainly on basketball and baseball, but during his junior year, he became a kicker for his football team. Law spent his summers doing various camps and training for his sports.
Outside of his family, Law had many impactful people help shape his growth. Dr. Gerald Miller recruited him to play basketball in middle school. This helped him begin his path to becoming a student athlete. Larry Bible, Law’s youth pastor, sparked Law passion, and ultimate career, in education.
Law became involved in an organization called the Four H. It is an agricultural program that has competitions on farming and at-home skills. Unknown to Law, this organization would influence Law’s journey, as the seeds planted in those early years would grow in adulthood. It also furthered Law’s inclinations towards education as he began teaching people in this program.
In 1993, Law married his first wife, graduated from Lee University in 1997, and in 1998, he moved to Florida. When he first got married, Law worked for a jewelry store. His role included receiving phone orders that led him to eventually selling jewelry on live TV. Even though Law was doing well, he knew that this was not his passion and God was calling him into the field of education.
After quitting the jewelry business, Law was hired for a teaching job (which is what he wanted originally) at a Christian school, and he taught there for a few years. That is when Law found his calling as an administrator. When asked about his experience as an administrator, he said, “You’re still teaching, but you’re just pouring into teachers and students in a different way.”
Law had success through his job in administration, but tragedy would strike. In 2018, Law lost his wife to a four year battle with cancer. Amid the immense sadness and heaviness that came with this loss, Law began a soul searching journey that would take him down a new path of practicing healthy living. He discovered a passion for the organic lifestyle, and eventually started an Instagram account based on his passion to motivate other towards healthy living called True Organic Life.
Law’s lifestyle at the time was not as healthy as it could be. He was drinking tons of coffee with cream and sugar. Law was advised by a relative to cut out “bad” sugars and dairy. Law then gave up cream and frivolous sugar. Over the next couple weeks, he noticed that he had lost an astonishing 13 pounds!
When asked about how he felt about his discovery, Law said, “I was just kind of shocked. All I did was just give up a couple of really simple things and just listen to my mind and my body.” This discovery would lead him to create the health program of True Organic Life.
Besides his passion for a healthy lifestyle, Law also has other hobbies. He loves well constructed narratives, such as “The Mandalorian.” He even wore a helmet on stage at one of the Spirit Sideshows last year.
However, Law’s favorite hobby is Disc Golf. When asked how Law discovered the sport, he said, “My boys and I started playing probably six years ago.” Law now tries to play once or twice a week, and he enjoys playing in tournaments.
Law also loves to travel and collect art. In his office, he has art from places like Israel and Rome. Law tends to travel on educational tours for children with Dr. Phil Johnson. Law hopes that he could do an experience with Johnson and Global Next, which is Johnson’s organization, and the students at Carmel.
Law works as the Assistant Principal of Carmel Christian High School. He also has two sons, Jaren and Ethan. Jaren is 23 and is engaged. His youngest son, Ethan, lives with Jaren back in Tennessee because he is dual-enrolled. Ethan is a Christian pop musician who has a Spotify channel. Law also remarried in December to his current wife, Michelle. He met her on Match.com in 2021.
Starting his second year at Carmel, Law is hopeful for the school year ahead. He stated, “I love Carmel. Carmel is a great environment. We have really, really high quality students and teachers.”
