The Carmel Christian High School Student body provides a plethora of clubs for students to partake in throughout the school year. Whether you love to get competitive on the pickleball courts or serve in the school musicals and dances by creating artwork, there is a club for everyone! The following clubs were created by their founders based on the activities that they thought the student body would also want to participate in. Collectively, the leaders of the clubs continue to encourage students toward their passions through activities and regular meetings! Below are several club highlights, but are not the entirety of the clubs offered this school year. Be sure to check out the extensive list of the clubs.
Girls Inspiring Girls
President of the Girls Inspiring Girls club, Cat Connell, states that the club is a place for girls to navigate through the modern world, using scripture and support. The club’s goals are to discuss some potential scenarios in which women may be in danger or pressured and how to react. In addition, Connell desires to help the club notice warning signs for women around them. Other subjects they are going to emphasize this year would be finding and showing value to oneself and the women around them. Connell emphasis many of the tough experiences or feelings that girls go through are actually universal. 78% of teenage girls are insecure about their appearance, furthermore many teenage girls feel alone when they experience hardship when it is likely that someone else in this community has experienced it as well. Connell states, “I just want a kind, open atmosphere, that allows for open conversations, that lead others to God and comfort.” One unique aspect of the club is the service project. After Christmas Break, they have a plan to work with the Monroe Women’s Shelter, in serving, as well as a possible clothing/hygiene products drive. The Girls Inspiring Girls club meetings are during off-campus lunch on Thursday. Email Cat Connell if you would like to attend the next meeting!
Crosswalk
Presidents, Anna Blair Huie, Aubrey Franklin and Lexie Millard state that the Crosswalk Prayer Club aims to create a community centered around the power of prayer. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 calls for prayer without ceasing and give thanks in all circumstances. The Crosswalk Club desires to come alongside Carmel in a consistent prayer community! The club meets every Wednesday morning in Sra. Santos’s room to eat breakfast, share prayer requests, and have a prayer circle together. The goal of the club is to illustrate the power of prayer! If you are interested in growing in your prayer life attend the weekly meetings to challenge your walk with the Lord!
Art Club
The Art Club is a place for artists who enjoy creating visual art, but is also for non-artists who are interested in learning about art and techniques. This club also invites those who are interested in helping out with the projects used for school functions throughout the school year. Examples of the projects that the art club has completed are decor for the High School dances and props/decor for the school musicals. President Kate Boland shares, “Yes, we have weeks where we only work on those projects but on some days we really just work on the art of our own. We work together to learn about different techniques and just have a fun time spending time together!” If you are interested in growing in your artistic abilities or love being creative for a positive purpose, swing by the art room on Thursdays!
Champions For Christ:
Champions For Christ Club is an exceptional way for student-athletes to come together and challenge their faith. Presidents Anna Decker and Kaitlin Blanchard state, “We are student Athletes of Carmel Christian School who take an intentional approach to achieving Christ-centered excellence in athletics with a desire to become Champions for Christ.” The club seeks to make disciples through the strategy of connecting monthly as they engage, equip and empower our athletes to know and grow in Christ. Throughout the year the athletes will be hearing from numerous coaches, professional athletes, alumni athletes and more who will share their life experiences and times when the Lord has grown them on and off the court.
International Club
The International Club has been partnering with Lisa Schulz and our exchange students program throughout the years. Presidents Grace Kelly and Grace Yim share that the club mainly is about fellowship and sharing cultures around the world. The club often participates in exciting activities throughout the year. Examples from past years have been Movie Nights, Chinese New Year presentations, pottery painting and the annual Christmas party. Many are unaware of the fascinating cultures that fill the student body; therefore, the International Club provides opportunities to immerse in different traditions from around the world. If you are interested in the listed activities contact Mrs. Schulz, Grace Kelly, or Grace Yim to get information regarding the upcoming events!
Pickleball
A recent trendy sport, pickleball, hit the internet during the COVID-19 pandemic as many families spent their time outside participating in friendly competition. Since then, many have become fascinated with the game of pickleball and flee to courts at every chance. Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong using a paddle and plastic ball with holes. It is a game that is appropriate for players of all ages and skill levels. Presidents Reily Anderson, Harrison Banker and Anna Foster created a club in which teams of two play against each other one Sunday a month. This allows a plethora of students from every grade to fellowship with one another while still partaking in the competition. This club reached its maximum members for this school year, but if pickleball is something you aspire to do, be on the lookout for next year’s openings.
School-Wide Bible Study
Eli Chen and Luca Conti’s Bible Study is all open-ended. There’s no one person put into a spotlight; think like a Socratic seminar, where everyone is seated at a round table sharing their own thoughts and ideas in a non-judgmental zone. This Bible study is for both girls and boys, and so far the club is primarily sophomore turnout. On average, there are roughly seven to eight who attend the morning sessions; however, up to 20 people have attended the lunch after-chapel portion! This Bible study provides the perfect opportunity to fellowship with those in all grades and feel like you have a voice in a supportive group of individuals. If you are interested in growing in your relationships attend the Bible Study on Thursdays during lunch in room 202!
Sign Language
The Sign Language Club is a wonderful opportunity to be exposed to an important language, not many people know. The club spends time with Mrs. Blong, learning basic phrases and words that would allow them to communicate with someone who is deaf or hearing impaired. To add on, last year the club had the opportunity to learn and sign a worship song for the elementary chapel, which provided the members with a real-life experience to use the skills they had been taught. Learning sign language is not only fun, but it also prepares students to be a blessing to others and build relationships within the deaf community in the future. If you are interested in the challenge and or picking up a new hobby, Ellie Miles and Alexis Cauble are the serving Presidents this school year and open their club to everyone!
Whether you are artistically gifted, have a passion for learning a new skill, desire to grow in your spiritual walk, or are always up for a competitive match, the 2023-2024 clubs offer a multitude of activities to take part in!
