The long winter seems to finally be over, which means spring is upon us, and more importantly for high school students across America, spring break! Spring break comes at the most opportune time, offering many weary students, teachers and families a wonderful time of rest and exploration. Some of the Carmel student body traveled far and wide, while others stayed closer to home, or even at home for a nice “stay-cation.” Regardless of where the break was spent, students have returned to campus with a little more pep in their steps this final leg of the school year!
One of the most popular trips this year was going to the beach. Students visited Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head and even the Outer Banks.
The varsity boys baseball team spent their week at a baseball tournament in Myrtle Beach Not only was the team given the chance to practice their skills and be challenged during games, but they also had plenty of fun enjoying the beach and some team bonding. Other than the team, numerous students enjoyed Myrtle Beach for recreational reasons, such as, junior, Lakyn Fletcher.
“Myrtle Beach was a great time for me to get a break from all the stress and spend time with family that I haven’t seen in a long time,” said Fletcher.
Lauren Stephenson was able to go to another Carolina beach as she visited the Outer Banks for spring break. “We were able to take a tour around the town which showed us some of the wild horses that lived on the local beaches, but we also got to learn some of the town’s history,” said Stephenson.
Some students spent time near water, while others explored the earth through national parks and canyons.
Asher Wood was able to go to Bryce’s Canyon and Zion in Utah, where he was able to hike in the snow and have fun with his family. “The way I felt so small compared to the beauty of God’s creation made me see the wonders of his works,” said Wood.
Keegan O’Bryan was another student who was able to visit a national park this break, as he and his family went to The Great Smoky Mountain National Park. He enjoyed spending time with his family and the beautiful scenery that he experiences while hiking the mountains!
Brenna Whitley, junior, headed out west to visit The Grand Canyon! Not only did she experience the sheer beauty of the park, but she and her parents were also able to stop in Las Vegas for a change of scenery! Whitley brought along her camera to capture the grandeur of the park!
Many students spent their breaks stateside, exploring the vast variety that America has to offer; however, several students went abroad for their breaks!
Josh Bhatt, senior, was able to spend his time in London and Egypt! His favorite memory was going into tombs that were 4,000 years old. Bhatt and his dad did a “boys trip” through the ancient cities, absorbing the rich history of the land. They were also able to spend time in London on their trek back home. Bhatt enjoyed the varying historical sites he got to see in both monumental places!
Jackson Maddox, a sophomore, was also able to go to Europe, visiting London and Paris. “My favorite memory was being able to explore London and Paris and learn about the history, and also being able to watch a Chelsea soccer match,” Maddox said. Both Bhatt and Maddox commented that to their surprise, the jet-lag returning to school has been much better than expected.
Though spring break has come and gone, the memories, rest and experiences will carry the students into the long awaited summer break!
