Thomas Coleman is a senior at Carmel Christian School who has attended CCS for seven years. Coleman started Carmel in the 6th grade and has been an active member of the community since.
When asked about some of his fondest memories at Carmel, Coleman said that participating in the theater crew was one of his favorite activities in all of high school. He said,”you’re just running off of three hours of sleep and then being delusional and doing crazy stuff with your friends.”
One of his closest friends, John Morris, who did crew with Coleman, described him, “A fellow when you meet him, a gentleman when you get to know him, a man of God if you are him.”
Coleman was the assistant stage crew member for the most recent play of Anastasia, which was an enjoyable way to finish out his high school theatrical involvement. Coleman, unbeknown to most, also has another hidden hobby. Coleman has a side business of woodworking and even runs his own business, Second Breakfast Studio. One of his more recent creations, a custom end table, is being auctioned at the upcoming Gala in the Garden.
His love for woodworking started when his grandad moved from Orlando to Charlotte and put a lot of the equipment in Coleman’s garage. Coleman had already built some small items with him in the past, but now the tools were more easily accessible for Coleman to use. At first, Coleman started messing with the tools but then found out how to make aesthetically pleasing furniture items.
When asked about what products he makes, Coleman responded,” I started out making cutting boards and a lot of little things but recently, I’ve started doing more tables and side tables and console tables and I am currently working on a coffee table.” He also has recently started an Instagram page for his work.
When Coleman graduates from Carmel, he plans on attending Appalachian State University. He has been going up to the mountains a lot and really felt like God was leading him to go to App State. Though his major is still undecided, Coleman feels confident he will pursue a major in the woodworking field.
Coleman has left a lasting impact during his time at CCS and is sure to make an impactful impression during his next four years at App. State. Coleman’s final comments to the student body: “alright guys, go follow my Instagram account!” He is set to start doing custom orders with his woodworking, so claim a prized piece while you can!
