This year, the Carmel Yearbook team worked hard to build up new foundations and put in many of their hours to create 2024’s Journeys yearbook.
Many people do not know what goes into making a yearbook behind the scenes: the late nights, the fickle design issues and the many hours of writing through journalism. This year, the high school photography teacher, Brandy Caton, and nine students have spent their late nights juggling school and creating the yearbook to make a beautiful book full of memories for the end of this school year.
They have spent the year showcasing the entire student body, kindergarten to high school, and giving a voice to all students. They are excited to finally share their creation.
“I feel proud. I have never been so excited to see something I’ve been a part of, and this is a first-time kind of experience for me. The yearbook staff is great. Everyone works as a team and encourages each other,” said Julian Anderson.
Students have worked hard throughout the year, striving to represent Carmel well through the yearbook.
“I think what motivates me to do yearbook work is knowing that a lot of people at Carmel will be seeing the book. Sometimes the work is just fixing up small inconsistencies and so I can also work on tiny bits of it in different classes whenever we have free time,” said Archie Arvind.
Kate Boland and Jade Eaton were this year’s senior editors on the yearbook staff. They have worked closely with Caton, and each other, to put together a beautiful book and aimed to be great leaders.
“[Caton] has helped me grow in my confidence as a leader. I was able to learn a lot from working beside her as an editor in the yearbook team,” said Boland.
Caton not only reached out and supported the editors but all the yearbook members.
“[Caton] has encouraged me to keep working, and she always helps if anyone needs it,” said Lilly Browne.
The community that was created this year developed a sanctuary for the yearbook staff, helping them grow together and develop the yearbook in the best way possible.
“I feel really happy about the yearbook that I helped create. The community that surrounded the creation of the yearbook affected my perception in the way that the yearbook is a product of a collective effort that everyone put in. Not only are we making memories possible to remember for the people, but also we are making memories with each other,” Luca Conti.
The yearbook staff has aimed to celebrate this with their community and the entire community of carmel.
“I honestly can say that I cannot wait to see what everyone thinks. To my peers, I truly hope that you love our work as much as we do! Look back and know that this year has been one of the greatest and most cherished years for me. To those closer to me every moment I was able to record from a game to show to everyday student life I will never forget this year and I will always look back on everything you all had done for me! So to those who read this know that I, among my classmates, hope that you will truly enjoy the Journey’s 2024 Yearbook,” Kylee Peebles.
