Michael Quint has been the 10th grade New Testament teacher at Carmel Christian for seven years. His knowledge and passion has impacted hundreds of students for the better. Quint grew up just a short distance away from Charlotte in Greenville, South Carolina, which was where he lived up until 2018. He made the decision to move to Charlotte after his first child, Mary, was born. He wanted to grow his family in a new location, and the opening job at Carmel Christian persuaded him to move to Charlotte.
Since then, Quint and his wife have had two more children, Sam and Asher. Mary attends Arborbrook Elementary and is in first grade, while Sam and Asher are both attending preschool in the coming years. Prior to Quint’s relocation to Charlotte, he attended North Greenville University, which he reminisced about fondly. Although he states he “didn’t have a ton of options” for colleges, two of his closest friends got accepted into North Greenville, so he was incredibly thrilled to attend the school.
In college, Quint decided to pursue Christian Studies as his major. He knew God was calling him to some kind of ministry, but he wasn’t sure what kind exactly. His major prepared him for a vast array of opportunities in ministry in the future. By the end of college, he had determined that he wanted to work in a classroom setting. Quint explains that “I felt the Lord leading me to become a teacher. There were a few times where I was required to teach the Bible in a classroom, and I knew I needed to focus all my efforts and career towards that. I had such a passion for it, and I knew Carmel was where I needed to be in order to practice that passion.”
In his time at Carmel Christian, Quint has found numerous aspects to love about his job. He states that getting to spend so much time, both waking and working, talking about the Bible is the greatest gift he could ever ask for in a job. Having a career that coincides with his love and passion for Jesus is a blessing in his eyes. Quint also enjoys teaching specifically the sophomore class. He explains that “when I was a sophomore, a lot of light bulbs went off in terms of understanding God and the Gospel. I like being in a place where I can turn those lights on for other people and see the spark carry through the rest of their time at Carmel.”
Outside of school, Quint has numerous interesting hobbies that fill his free time. One of his favorite activities to do is to run. He was previously the assistant coach for Carmel’s Cross Country team, but now he just enjoys casually running through his neighborhood. Quint also enjoys other activities such as cooking and reading. His favorite authors include Cormick Mcarthy and David Foster Wallace, but he explains that he finds any “nerdy Bible book” very interesting.
Over this past summer, Quint developed a new, more niche interest, in the mandolin. This small, string instrument offers a unique sound that is often heard in folky music. He explains “I learned to play the mandolin because some of the music I like incorporates this instrument. It’s unique, unconventional and I simply just wanted to learn how to play it!”
Quint has impacted many students in his time at Carmel. One such student, Luca Conti, is a current senior here at Carmel. Conti received the Bible award for his time in Quint’s class during his
sophomore year. Conti was eager and excited to speak about the impact that Quint has had on him, within and outside of the walls of his classroom. Conti remarks that “as the year progressed I admired the Biblical knowledge, and I honestly found myself envious. He inspired my time in the Bible to be more than you had previously known. It’s become more of a ‘nerd-time’ for me all because of Mr. Quint.” Not only did Quint teach Conti knowledge and the pursuit of knowledge, but Quint also inspired him with his patience. Conti states, “[Quint] is hard to provoke in anger; he knows when to speak. He is a quiet man, but he lives out the Biblical principle of being slow to speak and quick to listen.”
Fellow Bible teacher, Kevin Honbarger, who teaches the junior Bible courses, stated: “Mike is that rare soul who lets you ask about Substitutionary atonement while sharing in his joy as he shares a video of his daughter learning to ride a bike. God, family, others, and self, that is Michael Quint.”

Gabrielle, what a wonderful coverage of such an inspiring teacher! Mr. Quint is a leader in all that he does! Carmel, more specifically the student body, is blessed to have him leading them through such foundational years of their lives.
