For Teacher Appreciation week, the students were asked to anonymously write what they love about their teachers. The teachers at Carmel Christian school pour into their students every day, which does not go unnoticed. Teachers, The Blue and Gold staff hopes this encourages you as the 2023-2024 school year comes to a close! The Carmel Christian high school students admire you more than you can know!

Mrs. Abbott

Mrs. Abbott is so kind, thoughtful, and radiates the love of Jesus more than any teacher I’ve ever had. Mrs. Abbot has been so influential in my past two years at Carmel. She continually points me to Christ while teaching world history & government/economics really well. Not only is she a great teacher, but she intentionally builds a relationship with each student she can. I can say that she will definitely be one of those teachers I will always remember even after I graduate school. Mrs. Abbott is such a blessing to have 🙂

Truly an intentional and kind man of God.

He made finance fun and interactive and I loved his sense of humor more than anything.

Mr. Bash is an incredibly passionate man that I can tell truly wants us to learn and grow in his class. I don’t feel as though Mr. Bash knows just how much we appreciate him and his work that he takes time to prepare for us each day. Mr. Bash, thank you for pouring your heart into your work and into us, you are more appreciated and respected than you could ever know.

Mr. Bash never fails to put a smile on my face! He is such an interesting person and has proven that he is also a wonderful teacher.

I had the pleasure of going to DECA with Mr.Bash. He is one of the most kind-hearted and funny teachers I have ever met. Whenever I see him in the hall or the classroom I love talking to him and catching up.

Started me well on my way my freshman year and as a senior I am happy to say Mrs. Brinkley had a profound impact.

I loved her class, she has such a sweetheart and really inspired me to read my Bible.

Mrs. Brinkley is such a wonderful and caring person. I loved having her as my teacher and look forward to saying hi to her whenever I have the chance. She is so genuine and kind every time I talk to her. She is the perfect example of living in the footsteps of Jesus and spreading light in the world.

Mrs. Brinkley’s class is so fun and I really enjoy it. Anyone who walks into her class is always greeted with her smile. She also creates amazing ways to apply Bible knowledge to everyday life. Mrs. Brinkley is overall really nice and one of the best teachers I’ve had.

Mrs. Brinkley, it is so evident from the overflow of love and joy in your life that you genuinely care about the people around you. In my life, you have not simply been a teacher, but a friend. I can recall countless times when you have stopped to have a conversation with me, whether it is simply about my day or about something weighing on my heart, and I am grateful for your impact on my life. You are a radiant light of Jesus and you remind me everyday to live for Him. Thank you for being who you are and loving others so well.

Mrs. Brinkley is such a light to the world and is a very uplifting teacher. She is the type of teacher that I will remember for the rest of my life and strive to be like her every day.

Mrs. Denney

The science teacher who knew what they were doing the best. Mrs. Denney kind of single handedly got me into college so thank you for all the time you’ve dedicated to not only my education but the education of hundreds of students.

Mrs. Denney is one of the smartest teachers to walk the halls of CCS. She is so amazing at what she does and truly cares for each one of her students.

She is incredibly smart! She has a passion for what she teaches which makes her class very enjoyable.

Mrs. Denney is one of my favorite teachers. When she is teaching her lessons the students can tell that she genuinely enjoys what she does and that projects onto her students. Even though her Anatomy class is difficult, she teaches in a way that makes it easier to understand and in a way that makes it enjoyable for students. Mrs. Denney is always willing to help students who are struggling or give them tips on how to study more effectively.

Mrs. Denney is a super funny and informative teacher. She works her students hard, but she always makes sure they succeed. Totally recommend taking one of her APs because even though it will be difficult, she will get you to succeed.

I have actually learned so much from this class, and I still feel like I retained the information even after going on to the next unit.

I got the joy of having Mrs. Denny over J-term and was amazed by her base of knowledge. She is such an inspiring woman in Stem.

10/10 She has taught me so much and she is one of the only teachers I feel she  really respects and treats us like adults. Everything she assigns is intentional and she is really good at her job.

Mrs. Denney is simply great at what she does. Anytime we start a new topic and I feel like it will be impossible to learn all of the material, I just take a second and remember that it’s Mrs. Denney teaching and instantly all my doubts go away. Also, in every single unit, she always points all of the science back to our creator and I’m always blown away by His intricate creations.

Mrs. Dockery

The most tenderhearted and understanding teacher I’ve ever had. I genuinely feel like one of her children by the way she radiates patience and positively.

Great teacher, loved her class back in 9th grade; makes music fun 🙂

Mrs. Dockery has improved the band so much. She has provided more opportunities for us to play and practice. She genuinely cares about us and asks us how we are doing and if we need prayer every class. She helps us one on one to improve our playing and encourages us when we have challenging music.

Mrs. Fox

Mrs. Fox is one of my favorite teachers. I love her teaching style and how she can make everyone feel comfortable in her class. She’s such a fun person and I always enjoy gong to her class.

Mrs. Fox is so funny and her class always has a good environment. I like how she talks with all the students and makes sure to connect with everyone.

Mrs. Fox, you are literally so hilarious and you always make my day. I have enjoyed having you as a teacher not once, not twice, but three times, and I will miss not having you next year. Thank you for doing your best every day to intentionally care for the students you teach. I appreciate your willingness to show me when I mess up and help me understand how I can do better, not only as a student but as a follower of Christ. We love you Mrs. Fox!

Mr. Gesin

The most chill and straight forward teacher. An absolute legend.

Mr. Gesin is a great teacher. He is so easygoing and fun. I love going to chem every A day and saying hi to him in the parking lot.

Mr. Gesin you are actually the most hilarious human being ever. I love your sarcasm and how honest you are with your students. I genuinely look forward to your class because you always make my day better. I also admire your very obvious passion for learning more about God and sharing your love for Him with others. Thank you for showing me how God works in amazing ways in my life and the world around me. You’re literally the best.

Mr. Gesin never fails to make a class laugh and has personally shown me how fulfilling life can be if you are willing to take a chance and follow God.

Mrs. Gilmore

Mrs. Gilmore is still my favorite Math teacher. I am a senior and I will never forget how comprehensible Mrs. Gilmore makes her class. If I were to tell the freshman one thing before I leave, NEVER TAKE HER FOR GRANTED!!!!!

Mrs. Gilmore has done an amazing job at teaching Math and making it an interesting experience for students.

I had Mrs.Gilmore for two years and have had a lovely time getting to know her!

Dr. Gilson

Dr. Gilson has, without question, been the greatest teacher I have ever had. His style of teaching was slightly off-putting at first, but I have grown accustomed to it and thrived in his class. He is incredibly insightful, and I enjoy conversing with him on a plethora of topics, most of the time not even related to class at all. Dr. G, your passion does not go unnoticed, and you have inspired me to grow a massive beard and shave my head completely when I graduate and my mom can’t tell me otherwise.

A very cool history teacher that inspired me to learn more

You always have the best advice and have definitely opened my eyes and probably many other peoples eyes to problems in our life we can improve on. Dr. G never fails to make a class laugh and be an authentic teacher. He’s the type of teacher that you talk about to your kids and I’ll forever remember the many conversations we have.

Dr. Gilson is one of the funniest teachers I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Regardless of my efforts and mood he always tends to brighten my day and make life a little more humorous.

Dr. Gilson has changed the way I think about the world, my faith, and myself. I feel more prepared to step into adulthood because of his influence, and he has taught me to apply my relationship with Jesus to elements of my life I would have never thought of.

Ms. Gooch

Ms. Gooch, I absolutely love you. There would be a missing piece at Carmel if you weren’t there. You are the sweetest, most caring teacher I have ever met and you show an unbelieveable amount of love and grace to all of your students. You so clearly have a passion for what you do and I am grateful for the many, many years I have learned alongside you. Ms. Gooch, thank you so so much for everything you do. You’re amazing!

You immediately made me feel accepted at this school, and my art block practically gets me through my week. I’m so thankful for your class and how kind and sweet you are.

Ms. Gooch is an incredibly kind hearted and beautiful individual. It is poignantly apparent that she genuinely cares about each student on both a professional and personal level. Ms. Gooch always encourages distinctive creativity and she is very thoughtful and intentional in everything she does. I appreciate her presence on campus very much in so many ways :))

Mr. H is a great, spiritual, and faithful man. While Mr. H and I have had some disagreements before, I feel as though he is one of the most genuine men I’ve ever met, and I have come to consider him not just a teacher, but someone I can go to with questions I might have that extend outwards of the classroom.

He is really sincere.

You have been an amazing Bible teacher and mentor this year. Thank you for making your classes more interactive and informative! The biggest thing you have done this year is caring, you take time at the start of ever class to pray with us and give us a couple moments of rest which at first felt weird but quickly had a huge impact on the course of my day. Thank you for being available to talk and pray outside of class, I know you will bless your next group of students just as much as you have blessed us!

Mr. Honbarger is an amazing person who works hard and I always appreciate the effort he puts into the lives of his students.

Mr. H is one of the sweetest people at Carmel. His love for God and willingness to be there for myself and other students stands out and makes life so much brighter. I adore knowing him and having the opportunity to have him in my life as a mentor!

Traveling to Atlanta for JTerm with Mr. H was such a great experience. The team was able to witness Mr. H’s servant heart for the ministry we were helping, and his quiet leadership.

Mrs. Mcbroom

Best LA teacher I’ve ever had. Also the hardest LA class in all of high school (I’ve taken both LA AP’s). Still my favorite class of sophomore year because her genuine kindness and ability to joke with the students made her class amazing.

Mrs. McBroom is an amazing teacher who is really dedicated to her work. Everything she has taught us is amazing and I truly respect her and her teaching abilities. She always looks pristine in her marvelous outfits.

The wisest woman I have ever met

Never fails to make class interesting and enjoyable, even through the most boring subjects

I had her class last year and really enjoyed it. Mrs. McBroom really wants the best for her students. She teaches in a way that is engaging but also gets her material though. I remember that I had struggled with integrating quotes but her method of “cheese sauce” really helped me to improve my writing.

Mrs. McBroom, you are so caring, funny, and genuine. I am grateful for your discussions about Biblical ideas and how Jesus is better than anything else. He is so clearly the most important part of who you are, so thank you for sharing your passion for Christ with us. You love your students so well, which I see when you help us learn from our mistakes and grow in areas where we struggle. I wish you many years of happy retirement spent with the people you love and doing the things you enjoy. You deserve it!

Mr. McMillon is one of the best Bible teachers I have had. He constantly pours into my life and I am forever grateful.

He has made the Bible interesting and really fun!

Ms. Mente is one of the most caring teachers on the CCS campus. I love her sweet spirit!

She is the best teacher ever! She understands us students and really connects with all of us. She is our QUEEN!

I have never had a teacher like Ms. Mente. She has made taking an AP class so enjoyable while still giving me such good writing skills. I have truly grown through her teachings. She strives for personal relationships with each of her students and I have never left her class without a smile on my face and a funny story to tell.

Ms. Mente is so full of energy and joy!! Even when certain times in the school year are tough, she is always encouraging her students to keep going and gives us great advice along the way. Having her as a teacher makes 11th grade so much better!! She is a bright light in my life and her happy spirit makes my day 🙂

Ms. Mente is such an amazing teacher and I love talking to her. She has such a fun, radiant vibe and I am so glad I’ve got to know her She brightens up my day and I love seeing her in the halls 🙂 As well as, she is just filled with positive and welcoming energy, that just invites people in. Ms. Mente is such an amazing person and you can obviously tell how much she pours into her students. She has made my writing so much better and taught me valuable information that i will keep close to my heart for the rest of my life.

Ms. Mente is one of my favorite teachers at Carmel. Whether its a class day that is random or a poetry test she always makes the classroom and student life so much more. I admire her and everything she has done for me and my peers which help us grow as students and individuals.

Ms. Mente is such a sweet soul. She loves every single one of her students well while also being incredibly amazing at her job. Her love for her students and her job is so apparent, and she is greatly appreciated every single day.

Thank you Ms. Mente for being the best AP Lang teacher EVER! You have been so helpful with MCQ strategies, helping me learn all about rhetoric, and practicing all the different timed writes. I really appreciate the time and effort you put in in order to make us successful, as well as be the best versions of ourselves that we can be 🙂

She helped me further develop my love for writing and new love for rhetoric and argumentation, and has been a listening ear and person to talk to when needed.

Coach Miller

The most intentional and caring man of God who genuinely cares about his students. He is exactly what a true teacher should be. Also he’s super fun and hilarious to be around.

Though I have never had Mr. Mogusu’s class, I adore him. Not only does he make an effort to check in on me and my peers everyday he also learns every student’s name and brightens everyone’s day. He is by far one of the most encouraging and inspiring teachers at Carmel and I adore every day that I get to see him!

Mr. Mogusu consistently makes my day better. I’m really going to miss stopping in his classroom to tell him about how the week is going and hear about his day. His classroom, while the content would scare me, has become a chill escape.

I love Mrs. Menendez ‘heart for Jesus! She is so so encouraging!

She is so sweet and kind.

I loved her class so much and wished I could retake it. She is such a mother-like figure through her kindness and gentleness. She would always share her wide variety of snacks with us and made the experience so helpful yet fun.

A great, funny, and positive teacher

Mrs. Menendez is a great person just to talk to and be around. Even though I haven’t had a class with her, it’s still comfortable to go up and talk to her. She is very understanding and I like how she connects with students that she doesn’t teach. I love how Mrs. Menedez is also always willing to help and she is also really funny.

Mrs. Menendez was hard, but she helped me grow in many ways. When I look at assignments now, I say “I can do it because I survived Mrs. Menendez!”

Mrs. Menendez, thank you for everything you do. I can’t count the times I have messed up, missed a deadline, or complained because life was just hard. Through it all, you show grace. Time and time again you express your deep compassion and love for your students, and I have seen it firsthand in my interactions with you. I know you do a lot, and in it all you work to serve the Lord and show your students what He means in your life. Thank you for your reminders of His faithfulness that are often exactly what I need to hear to get me through the day. I am truly grateful for you and who you are in my life.

I’ve known Mrs. Menendez for a long time and I can say that there is no teacher that is as ambitious and strong. Through everything in life she has persevered with a smile on her face and the love of Jesus in her heart. I admire her greatly for her perseverance.

Mrs. Menendez balances so much on her shoulders and yet is always willing to hear about what weights her students are carrying, so she can attempt to lighten the load.

Ms. Muir-Taylor

Ms. Muir-Taylor is so warm and kind in and out of the classroom. In addition to being an excellent teacher, she genuinely cares about us and takes interest in what we care about. She is always offering help after class when we need it 🙂

She is one of the most incredible teachers I have had the pleasure of having. She is so attentive to having good relationships with every student she teaches. She checks up on me daily and always compliments me. She makes me want to become a better person and truly helps me become interested in writing journalism. She makes me feel so good about myself and is always so interested in my life and never makes me feel ashamed. I love her so much and will forever remember her <3

Ms. Muir-Taylor has great taste in literature, music, and style!! I respect Ms. Muir-Taylor highly has my teacher but I also know I can talk to her about things like I can a friend. I’m grateful for her as my AMLIT teacher.

I love Ms. Muir-Taylor with my whole heart! She makes me so happy and brings so much joy, energy, and positivity in my life. She’s the sweetest, most perfect person I’ve ever met and I look up to her so much! I love her!!

She makes class so much fun and she has helped me grow so much. I am beyond blessed that I got to know her, and grow closer with her. She brings fun energy, even if sometimes she doesn’t feel as she does, stepping into her classroom is a different feeling I can’t express how much I have learned, and how much I have grown, (not even considering the school aspect) and Ms. Muir-Taylor has played a huge role in that, and I am forever thankful. She is able to be relatable which creates a welcoming and comforting space. (also makes the reading actually enjoyable and interactive) Her classes will forever be one of my favorites 🙂

Mr. Quint

A great coach, a better father and most importantly a true man of God.

Mr. Quint, you are truly such a kind person. You are always, always willing to help your students and I appreciate your constant grace towards us. I admire how much knowledge you have in your brain (like seriously you’re so smart and I think it’s so cool), and I love your passion for sharing it with others. Its so clear to me that you have a genuine love for Christ, for everything you do and say points back to Jesus in your heart. I have learned so much from you and I have enjoyed getting to know you this year. Thank you for your desire to teach and love others well.

Mr. Quint is an icon! His kind nature and light personality made every class that I had with him a joy. The surreal nature gave me the opportunity to connect closer with him and God. I am forever grateful for the lessons I had learned from Mr. Quint!

Mr. Quint is a caring and kind soul. You can truly tell how much he cares about his students. He has a love for the classroom that is so apparent and proven in his teaching. He is passionate about what he does and it clearly has such a huge impact on students.

Mr. Robertson has a genuine servant heart and he truly cares about the student body. I have done missions with him and he is so fun to be around and he truly does have a passion for Christ. Even in SGA matters, he has always come through for me. Mr. Robertson will for sure be one of the people I will miss when I leave.

Thank you for being there for all of us and for caring. You have had a huge impact on all our lives through the chapels you organize and through the events to put in place. It is clear that you are doing what God has called you to do and you are very good at it. Mr. Robertson always lights up Carmel with his leadership and through that I admire and am inspired by him to reflect light to my peers..

Mr. Robertson has opened my eyes to what it means to build a life in ministry. He is humble and hardworking, and he is the same on the stage and behind the scenes. I admire his heart for the student body and his faithfulness in his walk with Christ.

You are the most amazing teacher, and the most amazing person. You have not only been my teacher but also my friend, and I am so grateful for all I’ve learned in the time I’ve known you. I LOVE being in your class!! You make it so much fun for all of us and it is the best part of my day! You radiate the love of Jesus through everything to do and teach and I just really enjoy being around you!!

A magnificent woman that can do so much with whatever she is given to work with

There are many words you could use to describe Mrs. Sanderson, but I think the one that represents her most is love. I have never heard something discouraging come out of Mrs. Sanderson’s mouth for the 2 years I have known her. She is very accepting and kind to everyone she talks to, not just kids in the arts, and she is always uplifting. She is an amazing theater teacher, an outstanding director, and an uplifting human being (not to mention she does all of this and is also an incredible mom). Thank you, Mrs. Sanderson, for being one of a kind.

Mrs. Sanderson has helped me a lot in my life and through the past few years of knowing her. When she first came to Carmel I was a nervous wreck and though since that day I have continued to fall down I can say that there is no other teacher that is there by my side to pick me back up and encourage me. She is not only a teacher but a close friend and a mentor in my life that allows me to grow. Through all of her guidance I have grown into someone that can face troubles and reflect on life in such a positive way. I will forever be inspired by her and everything she does. I aim to inspire in the same way she does and grow in my life with Christ.

Mrs. Sanderson is one of the sweetest people on the planet. She dealt with me interrupting her classes and she welcomed me to her theater family with open arms. She pushes all of us to grow to our greatest potential. She believes in every one of us and I am so thankful that God led her to our school. Love you, mean it

Mrs. Santos

The most motherly teacher I could ever wish for. I used to be terrified to speak Spanish but she genuinely wanted me to get better and gave me the confidence to try even if I may fail.

Mrs. Santos is one of my absolute favorite people. She genuinely loves her students and has such a fun humor and personality. I love how she talks about how God has worked in her life and anyone that steps into her classroom can see how much she loves the Lord.

Mrs. Santos is a very sweet and understanding Spanish teacher. I have enjoyed her class and I enjoy seeing her in the hallways.

Mrs. Santos is always a bright light. She is always funny and makes sure to have fun in the classroom. Mrs. Santos also is a great Christian role model and displays to her students the importance of having a Christ-centered life. Mrs. Santos also checks up on all her students and I love how she is always there to talk to, whether its something the subject or personal.

I love you Senora Santos! Spanish is such a fun class and I have absolutely loved having you this year. You are kind and compassionate and willing to help us grow every day. The thing I appreciate most about you is how you look out for your students all the time. You pay attention and you always make sure we’re doing okay. I am thankful for the intentional time you take to show how much you care, and I am grateful for the way you have taught us how incredible Christ is. I admire your vulnerability and honestly in sharing your story, and I cannot think of a person I respect more. Throughout it all, not matter what is going on in your life, I have rarely seen you frown. Your joy and love is evident in all you do. You never fail to point everything back to Christ, and I hope to become more like you in the way you still trust Him and point your whole life to Him no matter what you walk through. Thank you for who you are in my life, you mean so much to me.

I was so terrified for this class, but you Mrs. Santos is genuinely one of the sweetest and most caring teachers at this school. I’m so glad that I had her this year, and I’ll miss her so much next school year.

Mrs. Santos is one of the most kind hearted people I know! She has always shown me kindness even though I had never taken her class. She loves and respects me and is always willing to hear out my conversations and struggles in life. Because of all these things and so much more she has become one of the brightest people in my life. Senora Santos is my mom on campus. My spanish abilities are not my strong suit but I would take her class again and again just to spend more time with her. She is such an encouragement in my life.

Mrs Santos is the sweetest soul in the classroom. She is always positive and I love how she isn’t afraid to laugh and joke with us students. She is so kind and genuinely the nicest person ever. I love how she with spontaneously break out into song during class to bring light to the classroom! Te amo Señora Santos!

I know that I was a bit of a shock at first but thank you for not viewing me poorly in spite of the situation and caring about me even though we just met a couple months ago. You have had a large impact in my life these past few months and it has meant a lot to me. Thank you so much for everything you have done!

Mr. Spruill is one of the funniest most sincere teachers at Carmel. Though I don’t take his class I know that him and his family are some of the loveliest most genuine families one could meet and become antiquated with.

Mr. Spruill has helped foster in me my love for singing, music, and worship. I’ve been with him since 7th grade and I’m very sad to have to say goodbye to Ignite Band but so so grateful for all he has done for me and the other seniors. He always knows how to make me laugh and notices when something is wrong. He truly has such a big heart and is so talented and skilled in what he does.

Señora Vayas is one of the greatest teachers because she is able to teach all of her students a new language in a way that is engaging and yet fun for the students. She also is able to have fun with her students and grow relationships with them.

She has helped me speak Spanish up to an AP level, made me laugh until my cheeks hurt, and expressed genuine care and concern for me as a person. I love Sra Vayas and I’m going to miss her so much. These years in her class have been filled with some of my favorite class memories.
