Lip Sync Photo Essay

Last Thursday, Carmel Christian hosted its annual Lip Sync battle. Every winter, each high school class works as a team to compose a show to present to a panel of judges based on a certain theme. This year’s theme was the amount of words in titles of songs, which required each grade to only pick songs that had a set amount of words in their titles. The judges ended up ranking the freshmen in fourth place, the juniors in third, the sophomores in second and the seniors in first—leaving the class of 2024 reigning victorious two years in a row. From compelling choreography to thrilling visuals, the featured photos display moments from the four spectacular performances.

Grace Hawley, Graphic Design Editor

Grace Hawley, junior, is a new member of the Blue and Gold at Carmel Christian School. She was born in Orlando and moved to North Carolina to live here ever since. Apart from her time with The Blue and Gold, Grace works at Chopt where she loves her co-workers. She also enjoys playing the guitar, working on her school work and prepping for the PSAT. Grace has already scored incredibly high on the test and hopes to continue improving. Grace’s interest in The Blue and Gold came from her year in the Journalism and Media I course last year. She is looking forward to the challenge and excitement of providing news to the school and the enjoyable environment of the schoolroom. She is also looking forward to interviewing people for stories and creating a graphically appealing website for the stories to be showcased. Overall Grace is looking forward to her time on staff working as the graphic design editor and covering news features for this year's paper.

Jordan Saunders, Copy Editor

Jordan Saunders, who has been at Carmel her whole life, will be a senior this year and a new addition to The Blue and Gold staff. She was born and has lived in Charlotte her whole life. Jordan is an avid writer, actor and is interested in musical theater. Jordan has been doing theater since she was seven. In those years, Jordan has been in many plays and musicals. Jordan is interested in potentially continuing her career in theater beyond high school, but she is also interested in a career in creative writing. She has been working on her very own novel for almost five years now and believes that both writing and acting can work in unison. While outside of school and off the stage, Jordan likes spending her time by going to the beach and listening to music. Jordan worked on the yearbook staff last year and has had prior experience working with and for the student body. Jordan’s interest in The Blue and Gold came from the writing she did for the yearbook. She hopes to contribute to the Blue and Gold with her unique and fun perspective. Jordan will be working as the Copy Editor for this year’s staff and covering columns for the paper.

I love this photo essay so much! The spirit of lip sync is clearly captured, and the captions do a great job of explaining each performance.
